Humble and Kind: A Business Leadership Challenge - Rogue Marketing

Sometimes you hear a song that really resonates with you… I heard just such a song , by country superstar Tim McGraw last week called Humble and Kind.

OK, but why do I bring it up on our business blog? Well, there’s a lot of talk about leadership and character these days. Businesses are looking for new doses of it… homes and communities are in search of principled leadership… even our country as a whole is spending a lot of time talking about who is worthy of being our next leader in chief…

In my line of work, I spend a lot of time digging for those areas in a business that really differentiate. I think different so often comes down to company culture… and culture is built on character. Rogue is in the business of helping growth-oriented companies achieve their goals through brand building and amplification… and through the years we’ve learned that success has a lot to do with the culture. The foundation your business is built upon matters, and it’s often true that what you put out comes back to you.

You should do yourself a favor and spend five minutes to watch the video and listen to the song. You can even see the song’s complete lyrics here. As an agency owner who’s had a lot of great opportunities and has a highly-favored business, I was particularly moved by these words:

Hold the door, say please, say thank you
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb, but
Always stay humble and kind

When the dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride but
Always stay humble and kind

I’m for generating results. I’m for getting all you dream of. I’m for hard work. I’m for building rewarding relationships. I’m for enjoying the fruits of those labors. One of the greatest compliments we get is to hear a client say, “Life’s too short to work with people we don’t like, and we like working with you.”

Here’s hoping that as your success is realized that, you too, will work to always stay humble and kind.
